The Ministry of Education wants to return 100 thousand foreign students to Ukraine

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine intends to return at least 100,000 foreign students to the country after the end of the war. About this reported Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vynnytskyi.

“We have set ourselves the goal, I can announce this, that in the near future, after the end of the war, we need to return at least 100 thousand (foreign) students to Ukraine,” he said.

Vynnytskyi also emphasized the need not only to return, but also to increase the number of students from abroad. Before the start of the full-scale invasion of Russia, more than 70,000 foreigners studied in Ukraine, mainly from North Africa, India and the countries of the post-Soviet space, most of whom chose medical specialties.

The deputy minister emphasized the importance of teaching foreign students in the Ukrainian language. Also, according to his information, one student brings about 10,000 euros a year to the economy of Ukraine.

“This is a billion euros every year for our economy. Our education is competitive and we have opportunities to develop this direction. Now we need to invest in infrastructure to make it attractive. We have the opportunity to create an economic driver thanks to the network of higher education institutions that currently exists in Ukraine”, – emphasized Vynnytskyi.

The system of higher education of Ukraine was designed for a much larger number of students than are studying now, which opens up prospects for its effective use in the future.
