The NBU proposes to change the rules for using QR codes for credit transfers.
National Bank of Ukraine initiates updating the Rules for the formation and use of the QR code for making credit transfers, proposing to publish the document in a new edition.
The proposed changes are aimed at modernizing the approach to the exchange of details for credit and instant credit transfers, providing uniform standards for the data structure and graphic appearance of the QR code. This should simplify calculations, as well as unify the processes of formation, transfer and processing of payment details for all participants of the payment market.
Among the key changes is an update of the general requirements for the formation and use of QR codes, in particular regarding the functionality of payment applications, the possibility of transferring the code between applications, the obligatory placement of the scanner on the main screen, as well as the branding of the code. It is also planned to expand the data structure of the QR code by adding new fields and clarifying previously reserved elements.
A new QR code format is being introduced – version 003, which allows the recipient to indicate the desired type of transfer and blocks the possibility of editing individual details in the payment instruction.
The relevant provisions are set out in the draft resolution “On approval of the Rules for the formation, transfer and processing of the data structure and graphic image of the QR code for the exchange of details of credit and instant credit transfers”, which is presented for public discussion. Comments and proposals to the document are accepted in the established format until May 30, 2025 inclusive.
