“The new agreement between Poland and Ukraine: prospects and opportunities”

Poland is negotiating the signing of a new agreement with Ukraine, which will replace the current agreement of 1992. This step aims to strengthen military cooperation and security ties between the two countries, and will also contribute to the further development of the strategic partnership.
Professor Roman Kuzniar, Polish specialist in international affairs:
- Confirmed the possibility of a new contract: “A new treaty is certainly possible, and that’s what we’re thinking about in the Foreign Office and elsewhere.”
- He explained the absence of a cooperation agreement: “The absence of such an agreement may be one of the reasons for the absence of an agreement on security cooperation between Poland and Ukraine.”
- He emphasized the importance of military cooperation: “Regarding the relations between Poland and Ukraine, Kuzniar emphasized the importance of military cooperation, especially in conditions of geopolitical turbulence.”
- He noted the significant amount of Polish aid: “He also noted that Polish aid to the Ukrainian army has a significant volume.”
- A caution against excessive federalism: “However, the professor noted that the new agreement should not go as far as some of the proposals that arose last year regarding the ideas of a federation with Ukraine.”
The date of entry into force of the new agreement has not been determined, but both parties are sure of its necessity.
Professor Kuznyar:
- “Although the date of entry into force of the new agreement has not been determined, Kuznyar stressed that both sides are confident in the need for such an agreement.”
- “However, regarding the fact that such an agreement will be created, I think that there are no doubts on the Polish side, as well as on the Ukrainian side. Both sides are convinced that they need such an agreement.”
The new contract is expected to:
- It will strengthen military cooperation and security ties.
- It will contribute to the further development of the strategic partnership between Poland and Ukraine.
This will be an important step for both countries, which will help them better face common challenges.
