Former Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov started growing hazelnuts, having bought a garden in Zakarpattia Oblast.
According to the analytical system Contr Agent, Arsen Avakov, his wife Inna Avakova and business partner Ihor Kotvitskyi officially became the owners of Carpathian Golden Nuts LLC in 2023, although the company was previously associated with the Avakov group “Investor”. His family became the owner of one of the largest hazelnut orchards with an area of 900 hectares.
Hazelnut is one of the most popular nuts among Ukrainian gardeners. In 2023, approximately 2,300 hectares of new orchards were planted in Ukraine, more than half of which are walnut and cherry orchards. Among the nut orchards, 80% are hazel plantations. Hazelnuts begin to bring profit after three years. After that, yields increase exponentially: from 600 kg/ha in the sixth year to 1200 kg/ha in the seventh year, and then to almost 3 tons/ha.
