The spokesman of the DPSU calls for strengthening the defense of Sumy Oblast due to the threat of an offensive by the Russian Federation

Andrii Demchenko, spokesman of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, in an interview with Radio Liberty, expressed concern about a potential attack by Russian troops on the Sumy region.

He emphasized that, despite the lack of forces, Russia can resort to such tactics in order to draw Ukrainian troops from other directions of the front.

As long as we have such a neighbor, of course, we must be prepared for the development of any situations. And actually we should continue to build up our defense capabilities.” – said Demchenko.

The goal of Russia’s potential actions in the Sumy direction is to stretch Ukrainian defenses and divert resources from other areas of the front. To counteract this, according to Demchenko, it is necessary to strengthen the defense in the Sumy Oblast, where the length of the border with Russia exceeds 560 kilometers, which requires significant resources.

“I, in fact, even involving the forces we have, which we can involve there, we have to keep our defense strong, because the enemy is superior both in terms of equipment, and in terms of means of defeat, and in terms of personnel, unfortunately”, – said the spokesman of the State Border Service.
