The number of dismissed employees is growing rapidly in Poland: MEDIA

The number of layoffs in Poland continues to grow rapidly, informs edition of Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.

Experts point to a serious correction in the labor market, which may drag on for a long period. In August 2024 alone, 27 enterprises reported planned layoffs, five more than in July.

According to the publication, at the end of August, 161 companies filed declarations of intent to terminate employment relations with 19,800 employees. This is the worst figure since 2022.

The city of Łódź topped the list of regions with the largest mass reductions. In 2024, 1,360 workers were laid off at eight companies in the city, and the cuts will continue in 2025. Beko Poland Manufacturing has already announced plans to cut another 1,093 jobs next year.

In Warsaw this year, 39 companies announced layoffs, as a result of which 5,800 jobs were eliminated. Experts interviewed by the publication note that one of the main reasons for mass layoffs in Poland is the recession in neighboring Germany, where about 20,000 companies are on the verge of bankruptcy.
