The Global Peace Summit is a key event for the Ukrainian government aimed at gaining global support for its plan to achieve a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine.
The Global Peace Summit in Switzerland is expected to be an important event for the Ukrainian government, which is actively working to gain global support for its strategic vector to ensure a just and sustainable peace in the country. Expert Shelby Magid, deputy director of the Eurasian Center of the Atlantic Council, emphasizes that although the summit is not peace negotiations, it is a step in the direction of increasing support for Ukraine’s peace plan, even if not all its aspects will be considered.
The summit may also reflect broad international support for Ukraine among non-Western countries. Representatives of Russia will not participate in the summit. However, Viola Amgerd, the head of the Swiss government, believes that this measure will be an important step towards establishing peace in the region.
Also, the Government of Switzerland plans to end the summit with a final declaration, which “ideally” will be supported by all participants. Russia will not be present at the summit, but Amgerd is convinced that this event will be the “first step” to establishing a lasting peace.
We will remind that yesterday, June 14, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Switzerland to participate in the Global Peace Summit. He emphasized the importance of joint efforts with partners to end the war.
Russia also published a list of 430 Ukrainian servicemen who, according to its statement, are ready to return home under the condition of being exchanged for Russian servicemen. Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets called this step a provocation that happened even before the start of the Global Peace Summit.
