The Polish government launches the “Aktywny Rodzic” program: PLN 1,500 per month for families with children

The Polish government has approved a bill that provides for a new program to support families with children. The “Aktywny Rodzic” program should help parents combine family and professional responsibilities.

From October 1, 2024, parents will be able to receive PLN 1,500 per month for child care. The money can be used for the services of a nanny or a close relative, for a visit to a nursery school or for taking care of a child at home.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk notes that the program will help overcome people’s fear of having children due to a lack of resources for care.

Program details:

  • Both parents work.
  • Contract with the person who takes care of the child (in the case of a nanny or a relative).

Amount of assistance:

  • PLN 1,500/month for a nanny or relative.
  • PLN 500/month for daycare (subject to change)
  • PLN 500/month for care at home.

Child’s age:

From 12 to 35 months.

Quote from Donald Tusk:

If the Seimas and the president do not create problems for us, then from October 1 this social payment will be available to every Polish home.”

Importance of the program:

  • It will help parents combine work and raising children
  • It will reduce the fear of having children due to lack of resources.
  • Stimulates fertility.

The government allocated PLN 1.5 billion in the 2024 budget to finance the “Aktywny Rodzic” program. The program applies to children from 12 to 35 months, that is, the age after the end of parental leave and before the child reaches the age that gives the right to preschool care.
