The President of Lithuania commented on the situation regarding the large-scale data leak from state registers

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda called the leak of citizens’ personal data from state registers unacceptable and criticized the delay in publicly reporting the incident. The situation was discussed at a meeting of the State Defense Council.

“This is a matter of national security. What happened is unacceptableclearly, this should not happen again in the future. We must eliminate the traces of what happened as soon as possible,” the President of Lithuania said.

Nausėda also said that there was no ban on the publication of information by the Prosecutor General’s Office. In short, at the moment his state services have no data on the malicious use of stolen information, but such a risk cannot be ruled out.

“Our institutions are informing everyone involved in order to reduce such risks. The lesson is that many of our institutions will still have vulnerabilities… It is wrong that we sometimes like to point to Lithuania as one of the leading countries in cybersecurity, and now we have such a scandal,” Gitanas Nauseda added.

The hack became public last week. According to preliminary findings of the investigation, the attackers illegally copied more than 600,000 records, primarily from real estate and legal entity registers. Lithuanian Prime Minister Inna Ruginenė reported that her family was also affected by the incident.
