In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, DBR employees detained the deputy commander of one of the military units, who is suspected of embezzling night vision devices worth almost 4 million hryvnias. About this informs DBR press office.
The illegal scheme was exposed as part of measures aimed at ensuring the defense capability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and preventing the leakage of military property into illegal circulation during the war with Russia.
According to the investigation, the deputy commander in charge of logistics prepared false documents in which he stated that 24 night vision devices were lost in combat conditions. Instead, he ordered subordinates to hide the equipment in a junk pile in the warehouse.
Evidence of his illegal activities was seized during searches of military unit locations, warehouses, and the defendant’s home.
The suspect is charged with misappropriation of military property and abuse of official position, which caused significant damage in the conditions of martial law (Part 4 of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was remanded in custody with the possibility of bail in the amount of 7.7 million hryvnias.
The sanction of the article provides up to 15 years of imprisonment. Currently, a pre-trial investigation is ongoing, within the framework of which the possible involvement of other military personnel, including the command of the unit, is being checked. An official investigation and inventory of military property have also been initiated.
