The SBU established that the suspect in the murder of Andrii Parubiy acted on the order of the special services of the Russian Federation
The Security Service of Ukraine established that the suspect in the murder of People’s Deputy Andriy Parubiy acted on the instructions of the Russian special services. He was informed of the suspicion of treason.
According to the investigation, more than a year ago, a man who lived in Lviv was recruited by representatives of the Russian special services. Since then, he has been carrying out their assignments and relaying information about the results.
At first, the suspect collected and transmitted data on the location of Ukrainian troops and tried to determine the routes of railway trains with fuel. Subsequently, after checking his “reliability”, he was entrusted with the liquidation of Andrii Parubiy, providing funding for the training.
The perpetrator monitored the deputy’s daily schedule and travel routes, and also prepared a plan to escape abroad after committing the crime. However, law enforcement officers stopped him in Khmelnytskyi, where he tried to leave Ukraine illegally.
On the basis of the collected materials, SBU investigators declared him a suspect under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — treason committed under martial law. The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Previously, the murder of Andrii Parubiy was qualified under Art. 112 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — encroachment on the life of a people’s deputy in connection with his state activities. The investigation is being conducted by SBU employees in the Lviv region together with the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
We will remind you that on August 30 in Lviv in broad daylight, the former chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andrii Parubiy was shot dead on the street. After the crime, the attacker ran away.
The police launched a special operation to find and detain him. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that this murder was carefully planned in advance. Already on the night of September 1, the head of state announced the arrest of the suspect. He turned out to be 52-year-old Mykhailo Scelnikov.
During the search, Soviet awards and honors were found in his apartment. In social networks, he distributed publications in support of Russia’s actions. Later it became known that Scelnikov’s son fought in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and went missing near Bakhmut. There were reports in the media that the Russian special services allegedly promised to return the body of the deceased if the father completed the task of killing Parubiy.
