Oleg Tsaryov was sentenced in absentia to 8 years in prison and confiscated property worth more than UAH 460 million

Former People’s Deputy Oleg Tsarev was sentenced in absentia in the case of financing Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine. As reported the SBU press service, the court sentenced him to confiscation of property with a total value of 460.6 million hryvnias. This decision was made within the framework of criminal proceedings under part 3 of Article 110-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which concerns the financing of actions aimed at changing the borders of the territory or the state border of the country.

Among the confiscated property are real estate objects in the occupied Crimea, including the sanatorium “Kirova” and the museum “Estate of Princess Baryatynska”, an apartment in the center of the Dnipro, as well as a plot of land in the Kyiv region. The total value of the property is more than 460 million hryvnias.

Earlier, Oleg Tsarev was informed of the suspicion of treason due to the fact of cooperation with the Ministry of Defense of Russia. He was also suspected of illegally crossing the border and helping to establish the Russian occupation regime in the Kyiv region. In 2022, Tsarev was already sentenced in absentia to 12 years in prison for calls for separatism and the overthrow of the government, which he made through Russian media in 2014.

After the annexation of Crimea, the former deputy of the People’s Republic of Ukraine registered his real estate under Russian law and enlisted the troops of the Russian Guard to protect it. Now he is in the territory of the Russian Federation, where, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General, he continues his illegal activities. The imposed punishment will take effect after his arrest.
