The Supervisory Board fired the head of “Ukrenergo” Vitaly Zaychenko

Supervisory Board “ Ukrenergo” made a decision to dismiss Vitaly Zaichenko from the post of company chairman. reports first deputy chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy and Housing Oleksii Kucherenko.

The reasons for such a decision have not yet been disclosed. Oleksiy Brecht will temporarily perform the duties of the chairman of the board. At the same time, all members of the board of “Ukrenergo” received the status of acting

Vitalia Zaichenko was elected to the position of chairman of the board at the end of June 2025, based on the results of an open competition. His candidacy was then supported by all seven members of the supervisory board.

Prior to that, he worked as a member of the company’s board and the director of management of UES of Ukraine. Zaichenko started work at “Ukrenergo” back in the 1990s, working his way up from engineer to chief dispatcher of the unified power system (since 2015).

The competition itself was accompanied by a scandal: the Ministry of Energy made changes to the statutes of NEC “Ukrenergo” and “HTS Operator”, limiting the powers of independent members of supervisory boards. Since then, for the election of the chairman of the board of “Ukrenergo” not 4 out of 7 votes are needed, but 5. Thus, without the support of at least one representative of the state, independent members cannot make a decision.

Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko then admitted that, in fact, the state representatives in the supervisory councils were given the right to veto personnel decisions.

Let us remind you that on September 2, 2024, the previous composition of the supervisory board dismissed the then head of the NEC “Ukrenergo” Volodymyr Kudrytskyi. Oleksiy Brecht, who held the position of the company’s chief dispatcher, was also appointed to perform duties temporarily.
