The Supreme Court of Criminal Appeals changed the preventive measure for former Odessa mayor Gennady Trukhanov in the “land case”

The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court has decided to change the preventive measure for former Odesa mayor Gennady Trukhanov in a case related to his possible participation in a criminal organization and illegal seizure of land belonging to the city’s territorial community. This was reported by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.

“The panel of judges of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court partially satisfied the request of the SAPO prosecutor and changed the preventive measure for the former mayor of Odessa, who is accused of participating in a criminal organization and illegally seizing land of the Odessa territorial community”, the report says.

The court decided to increase the amount of bail for the accused from 30 to 42 million hryvnias, but rejected the prosecutors’ request to take Trukhanov into custody.

According to investigation, in the period from 2016 to 2019, members of a criminal organization developed a scheme for the illegal transfer of land plots for further development. The lands of the territorial community of Odessa were leased without a tender – only by prior agreement with individual development companies.

The participants in the scheme received money or property from developers – apartments and non-residential premises – in exchange for the adoption of the necessary decisions in the Odessa City Council through controlled persons.

According to expert opinions, the total amount of damage caused is 689 million hryvnias. In addition, the investigation established the facts of legalization of funds received by the criminal organization as a result of other criminal offenses.
