The Supreme Court of Ukraine allowed Yulia Tymoshenko to keep her foreign passports and partially eased her obligations
The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court held a hearing on the extension of the duties assigned to the leader of the “Batkivshchyna” party, Yulia Tymoshenko. By the court’s decision, the MP’s foreign passports were returned, but the obligation to appear upon request to the detective, prosecutor, and court, as well as to notify them of a change of residence and work, remained in effect. This became known from the broadcast of the court session.
The prosecutor requested to extend for two months the obligations to appear at every request to the detective, prosecutor and judge, to inform them of a change of place of residence and work, and to surrender foreign passports.
According to the prosecutor, there are four risks. He stated that Tymoshenko may be hiding from the court authorities, in particular during foreign business trips, because last year she traveled outside the country 31 times. He also noted that her financial situation may affect this risk, and last year Tymoshenko’s property increased. According to the declaration, it is about 46 million UAH. In addition, they lent 4 million to a third party – their daughter.
According to the prosecutor, Tymoshenko may also illegally influence witnesses and experts conducting the investigation, as well as obstruct the investigation and distort documents. The prosecutor also stated that Tymoshenko may commit another criminal offense due to her deputy activities.
Earlier, the Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice returned Tymoshenko’s foreign passports once – for a business trip.
“This case is a joke, and I don’t understand why they are bringing it to court. She has not committed anything, she goes to all the meetings herself. She has been working in politics the longest of all, she should go abroad to benefit our state,” — said Tymoshenko’s lawyer Gotin.
Tymoshenko and her lawyers also stated that the deputy’s voice on the tapes was falsified. According to them, this was established by a British expert with royal certificates and experience in the courts of Great Britain. The defense requested that the prosecutor’s motion be completely overturned. Tymoshenko called the case against her a political order and emphasized that she was not going to leave Ukraine.
The prosecutor also commented on the statement of Tymoshenko and her defense regarding the expert examination of the tapes with the voice of the leader of “Batkivshchyna”.
“Each expert subjectively assesses the conversation, as if one word “cash” was heard there. But there are 11 phrases there, not one about the transfer of funds. Even one word would not be a transfer of suspicion. These expert examinations are not official, conclusions were made only from copies. The specialists were not warned about responsibility”, the prosecutor noted.
Investigator A judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine allowed Yulia Tymoshenko to travel abroad once to participate in an international event in Croatia.
