The Supreme Court of Ukraine sentenced the former head of the Ternopil Regional Council to 9 years in prison
The higher anti-corruption court found the former chairman of the Ternopil regional council, Mykhailo Golovko, guilty in the case of extorting and receiving a bribe from a volunteer entrepreneur. The court decided to sentence him to nine years of imprisonment with confiscation of all property, reported press service of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
“By the verdict of the court, the former official was found guilty of the crimes provided for in part 4 of article 368, part 1 of article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and was sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment with the deprivation of the right to hold positions in state and local government bodies, except for elected ones, for a period of three years, with the confiscation of all property belonging to him by right of ownership.” – the message says.
Before the sentence enters into force, the accused is subject to a preventive measure – bail in the amount of 15 million hryvnias, which must be paid within five days from the date of the decision. Along with the bail, procedural obligations provided for by law are imposed.
The court decision will enter into force 30 days from the moment of its announcement, unless it is appealed. Although the name is not specified in the SAP message, for information of the Anti-Corruption Center, it is about Mykhailo Golovka.
It will be recalled that in June 2023, Golovka was exposed for receiving over 600,000 hryvnias, which, according to the investigation, he demanded for assistance in entering the list of objects to be financed from the budget, the completed works on the overhaul of the road of local importance and the subsequent signing of the acts of the completed works by the communal enterprise of the regional council.
