The UK government has lifted sanctions on subsidiaries of “Rosneft”

On October 22, the British government issued a special license on Wednesday that allows companies to cooperate with two German subsidiaries of the Russian oil concern “Rosneft”, which are under the sanctions control of the German state. This was reported by Reuters.

Last week, the United Kingdom imposed new sanctions against “Rosneft” and “Lukoil” — Russia’s two largest oil companies, accusing them of financing the Kremlin’s military aggression against Ukraine.

Now, British authorities have announced that they are allowing companies and banks to continue working with Rosneft Deutschland GmbH and RN Refining & Marketing GmbH, which are under the control of the German government until March next year.

After Russia’s full-scale invasion began, Germany took over the management of these companies under a legal procedure called “trusteeship,” which must be renewed every six months. The regime was first introduced in September 2022. The trusteeship allows the German government to control “Rosneft’s” stakes in the country’s key refineries, including PCK Schwedt, MiRo, and Bayernoil.
