The UN responded to the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to participate in the mission in Kurshchyna

The UN has expressed readiness to arrive on the territory of the Kursk region, which is controlled by Ukraine, to carry out a humanitarian mission, but for this the organization needs permission from the Russian Federation. This was reported by UN spokesman Stefan Dujarric, commenting on the invitation of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to representatives of the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Ukraine observes international humanitarian law in the territories occupied by Russia and called on international organizations to join in monitoring the humanitarian situation. At the same time, the Red Cross has not yet provided an official response to the invitation.
Last week, the ICRC condemned an attack on a humanitarian convoy that left three people dead and two injured. However, the statement did not specify who was responsible for the shelling. Later, the Ukrainian authorities said that the attack was carried out by Russian artillery, and European leaders condemned the actions of the Russian Federation.
We will remind that after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Red Cross was criticized for the lack of clear statements regarding the responsibility of the Russian Federation for crimes against Ukrainian prisoners of war in Olenivka.
Ukrainian forces entered the territory of Russia’s Kursk region on August 6, announcing control over a number of settlements. In response, a federal state of emergency is in effect in the region, and more than 130,000 people have been evacuated. Active fighting is now underway: Russian troops are trying to counterattack, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding back their advance.
