The United States withdrew from the World Health Organization

On January 21, US President Donald Trump signed a decree on the withdrawal of the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO). Document published on the official website of the White House.

In the decree, Trump noted that during his first term, the United States had already initiated withdrawal from the WHO, but this decision was reversed by his successor, Joe Biden.

“The US intends to withdraw from the WHO. The presidential letter to the UN Secretary-General, signed on January 20, 2021, revoking the US notification of withdrawal on July 6, 2020, has been revoked”, the document says.

Trump emphasized that US contributions to the WHO are excessive and far exceed those of other countries. He ordered the end of all funding to the organization, as well as the recall of American personnel and contractors involved in its activities. The government must find new, reliable partners to carry out tasks previously delegated to WHO.

The decision provides that the US will completely stop financial support of the WHO and withdraw from its membership within 12 months. Washington, which provides approximately 18% of the organization’s funding, is its largest donor.
