The US Congress presented a bill on support for Ukraine and tough sanctions against the Russian Federation

Democrats in the House of Representatives of the US Congress submitted a bill aimed at supporting Ukraine in the war with Russia. About this informs Reuters agency.

“Representative Greg Meeks, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has introduced the Support for Ukraine Act, which would provide funding for Ukraine’s security and recovery and impose tough sanctions on Russia, according to a copy of the bill.” – says the message.

The document, which has not yet been officially released, comes two weeks after representatives of both parties filed a joint initiative in the Senate on sanctions against Russia if it refuses to enter into good faith peace talks with Ukraine.

These efforts in Congress demonstrate growing anxiety among lawmakers from both parties about Ukraine’s future amid Donald Trump’s stance on the Kremlin. It is assumed that certain provisions of this document may be included in the final big package regarding Ukraine, even if the bill itself does not receive sufficient support in the House of Representatives, where the Republicans have a majority.

The bill of the House of Representatives consists of three sections and may receive more support than the law on Ukraine in the Senate.

The first section records the support of Ukraine and NATO, and also provides for measures to facilitate the recovery of Ukraine, in particular, the creation of the position of a special coordinator for recovery issues.

The second section provides security assistance, including direct loans and military financing. The third imposes strict sanctions and export controls against Russia, covering the financial sector, the oil and mining industry, and Russian officials.

At the same time, Trump, who is eager to reach a peace agreement, has repeatedly placed the blame for the three-year conflict on Volodymyr Zelensky, despite the fact that the war began with a full-scale Russian invasion. On April 14, he again expressed dissatisfaction, noting that Kyiv is asking for missiles.
