The US court temporarily blocked the closure of Radio Liberty
A federal judge has temporarily barred the Donald Trump administration from shutting down Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. About this informs ABC News.
On March 25, Judge Royce Lambert issued a temporary restraining order, finding that the initiative to stop funding the organization “lacks factual or logical basis” and likely violates federal law.
“The management of the US Global Media Agency cannot, with a single sentence with little to no explanation, force RFE/RL to shut down — even if the president ordered them to do so.”, — noted Judge Lambert.
It will be recalled that on March 14, Donald Trump signed a decree to reduce the functions and personnel of a number of government departments as part of the fight against bureaucracy. The US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which oversees the activities of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Voice of America, was included in the list.
The next day, on March 15, Voice of America employees received a letter from the human resources department notifying them of being placed on paid administrative leave.
On March 19, the media corporation RFE/RL (“Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty”) filed a lawsuit in federal court in Washington against the Trump administration and Kari Lake over the decision to stop funding. The plaintiffs said that such actions are contrary to US law.
