The US Department of Defense has released official data on army losses during the war against Iran
The US Department of Defense released updated data on the losses of the American military contingent in the first five weeks of the war against Iran.
As of April 3, 2026, the death of 13 service members has been officially confirmed. The number of wounded during this period increased to 365 people, which indicates the high intensity of combat clashes in the region.
The ground forces suffered the most, with 247 wounded. The US Navy reports 63 casualties, and the Air Force reports 36. Among the Marines, 19 were wounded. An analysis of the causes of the casualties indicates that a significant portion of the fatalities were caused by direct Iranian strikes on US targets early in the conflict.
“Seven US service members were killed as a result of Iranian strikes on US targets in the region in the early days of the war,” the ministry said.
In addition to combat casualties, the Pentagon recorded a tragic incident with a tanker aircraft, which is officially classified as an accident. This event claimed the lives of six more US service members. The situation in the skies over the region remains extremely tense, as evidenced by the recent losses of aircraft.
“Over the past 24 hours, it has become known about the first cases of Iran shooting down American aircraft – one F-15 with two crew members and an A-10 Thunderbolt II with one pilot,” the Ministry emphasized.
The fate of one of the crew members of the downed F-15 fighter jet remains unknown, while the other pilots successfully escaped and are safe. The report also recalled the unfortunate episode at the beginning of the campaign, when the US lost three F-15 aircraft due to mistaken “friendly fire” from Kuwait’s air defenses. All pilots survived the incident.
US military leadership continues to assess risks and adjust tactics to reduce losses of personnel and equipment. Despite the complexity of the situation, security operations in the region continue according to plan.
