The US Senate approved the bill on military spending for 2026, which includes $500 million in aid to Ukraine

The US Senate has approved a bill on defense spending for fiscal year 2026, which provides for half a billion dollars in aid to Ukraine. This is reports Bloomberg.

The decision became an example of a rare bipartisan agreement: 77 senators voted “for”, 20 – “against”. The draft law provides for payments to military personnel, financing of military construction projects, development of new weapons and defines the key geostrategic priorities of the United States.

The document also provides for the extension of the US Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) until 2028 and an increase in its funding to $500 million. As noted by the media, the adoption of the draft law was delayed due to disputes among senators regarding other issues, including voting for the restoration of the government.

Earlier, the House of Representatives approved its own version of the defense spending package, which included controversial provisions proposed by Republicans. Now both houses of Congress must reconcile the differences in a special committee, and the final version of the document must be approved by the end of 2025.
