The Verkhovna Rada Committee supported the bill on regulating the work of Telegram in Ukraine
The parliamentary committee unanimously approved bill No. 11115, which should determine the rules for the operation of Telegram in Ukraine. The support for the document was announced by People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
The draft law No. 11115 on the regulation of Telegram’s activities in Ukraine provides for:
- official disclosure of the platform owners and sources of funding;
- the presence of contact with the Ukrainian state through an authorized body;
- the obligation to promptly respond in cases of terrorism, fraud or threats to national security security.
If these requirements are not met, sanctions are proposed – from financial fines to restrictions on the use of the platform by state bodies, banks and structures that work with citizens’ personal data.
According to the people’s deputy, it is important to prescribe practical mechanisms for applying sanctions before the second reading, since this may be difficult from a technical point of view.
