The Verkhovna Rada ratified the agreement on subsoil between Ukraine and the USA.

The Verkhovna Rada ratified the agreement between Ukraine and the United States on cooperation in the field of subsoil use, minerals and rare earth metals: it is known as the “subsoil agreement”. 338 People’s Deputies voted for the relevant decision, reported People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

Previously, the Committee on Foreign Policy twice considered the issue of bringing the draft law on ratification to the session hall for consideration. During the second vote, which took place on May 7, an amendment was added to the decision stating that “people’s deputies have not seen the text of the two technical agreements and are not responsible for them.”

We will remind that on the night of May 1, Ukraine and the USA signed a strategic agreement on the creation of the Investment Fund for reconstruction and partnership in the field of critical minerals, covering 57 types of minerals. The document defines the political principles of cooperation between the countries, while specific details should be regulated in a separate technical agreement.

US President Donald Trump said that the signing of this agreement aims to “protect” American investments and the financial assistance that the US provides to Ukraine. According to him, it “maybe” will contribute to the end of the war on the part of Russia. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also described the agreement as “a step toward ending the war.”

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, commenting on the signing of the document, called it a “practical result” of negotiations with Donald Trump in the Vatican.
