The Verkhovna Rada authorized the confiscation of almost 1,600 Russian wagons worth 2.2 billion hryvnias

The Verkhovna Rada adopted draft law No. 13442, which approved the forced seizure of property of the Russian Federation and its residents in Ukraine. 263 people’s deputies voted for the document. 1,592 freight cars of various types – covered, half-cars, platforms and tanks – are subject to seizure. Their total value is estimated at approximately UAH 2.2 billion.

The average age of these cars is 14 years, and it will be possible to operate them approximately until 2047.

“The owners of these cars are sanctioned residents of the Russian Federation. Forced removal will ensure their transition into state property of Ukraine. In fact, Ukrzaliznytsia” already uses the wagons, said Vladyslav, the president’s commissioner for sanctions policy Vlasyuk.

The owner companies include VEB-Leasing, VEB.RF, State Transport Leasing Company, Nord, Obldorsnab, Organic Synthesis, Gazpromtrans, Finance Business Group and Transcontainer.

The NSDC emphasized that the decision on confiscation was made “in order to mobilize the financial resources of the state” and “to deny the Russian Federation access to economic resources that could potentially be used to wage war”.
