The Verkhovna Rada supported a postponement of mobilization for military personnel aged 18-25 who have already served under a contract

The Verkhovna Rada supported in the first reading draft law No. 13574, which provides for a 12-month deferral from mobilization for military personnel aged 18–25 who served under a contract during martial law. This was reported by the press service of the parliament.

The draft law applies to conscripts and reservists aged 18 to 25 who signed a one-year contract during martial law and have already been discharged from service. The document proposes to grant such citizens the right to a 12-month deferral from mobilization after discharge.

The draft law provides for amendments to Article 23 of the Law of Ukraine “On Mobilization Training and Mobilization”. It will be supplemented with a new part that guarantees the right to deferment for the specified category of conscripts.

As indicated in the explanatory note, the need to introduce this norm is due to the fact that after being discharged from service, such citizens lose the valid grounds for deferment until they reach the age of 25. Because of this, they can be mobilized the very next day after being registered as conscripts or reservists. The parliament emphasizes that the new grounds for deferment should ensure a fair approach to those who have already fulfilled their contract during martial law and prevent re-calling immediately after being discharged from service.
