The Verkhovna Rada supported the draft law on strengthening the punishment for persuading underage athletes to doping

In the first reading, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported a bill aimed at strengthening responsibility for inducing minors to use drugs or methods prohibited in sports. About this reported Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.

The document proposes to amend Article 323 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine in order to increase punishment for the use of doping substances and methods among minors, even if they consent to their use. We are talking about situations when the use does not have medical indications, but is aimed exclusively at increasing sports performance.

Among the main provisions of the draft law:

  • double the fines — from 1,700 to 3,400 hryvnias;
  • an alternative to a fine is a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in relevant activities for a period of up to three years;
  • official confirmation of the list of prohibited means and methods that will correspond to the Prohibited List defined by the law “On Anti-Doping Activities in Sports”.

“The Ministry supports this important step in strengthening the protection of athletes, forming a safe and fair sports environment”, – emphasized the Ministry of Sport.
