“The war is far from over”: Zelensky’s statement and Trump’s reaction to it

Ukraine and the entire civilized world continue to wait for the end of the war, which has been going on for the fourth year. Politicians, diplomats and military experts consider various scenarios for the end of hostilities, analyzing possible ways to achieve peace. There is active debate in the world about exactly what this peace should look like: whether it will be achieved through military means or through diplomatic negotiations, and what conditions must be met to ensure justice and stability. While some countries call for diplomatic solutions, others insist on the need to continue military aid to Ukraine.  After the scandalous visit to the USA, Volodymyr Zelenskyi made a statement that caused a loud outcry both in Ukraine and abroad. Donald Trump reacted to her, harshly criticizing the position of the President of Ukraine.

Statement by Volodymyr Zelenskyi

As reported Sky News, During a meeting with journalists on March 2 at Stansted Airport, Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that the war is far from over and Ukraine will not make any territorial concessions for the sake of peace.

The President of Ukraine emphasized that any agreement to end the war must be not only “honest” but also “stable” so that Ukraine and its partners do not face new challenges from the Kremlin in the future.

“Ukraine will never recognize the territories occupied by Russia. For us, this will be a temporary occupation. Our territories and our values are not for sale. Our freedoms are not for sale.” Zelensky categorically stated.

He also emphasized that future security guarantees should provide for an immediate response by Ukraine and its allies in the event of a new aggression by Russia.

“I don’t want to talk about the details until there are signatures… there are too many things to think about.” – he said, emphasizing the need for a clearly developed agreement.

The president also assured that Ukraine’s international partners agreed to continue putting pressure on Russia to force it to abandon military actions and enter into negotiations on terms acceptable to Ukraine.

Donald Trump’s reaction

Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s statement caused a sharp reaction from US President Donald Trump. He harshly criticized the position of the Ukrainian leader, calling his words about the long-term prospect of ending the war “the worst statement that could be made.”

On March 3, on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote:

“This is the worst statement that Zelensky could have made and America will not tolerate it for long! This is what I said, this guy does not want peace as long as he has the support of America, and Europe at the meeting with Zelenskyi directly stated that they will not be able to do this job without the US – probably not the best statement to make for a show of force against Russia.”

In addition to criticizing Zelenskyi, Trump expressed his displeasure with Europe, saying that European leaders have openly admitted their inability to support Ukraine without US help.

“During the meeting with Zelenskyi, Europe clearly stated that it cannot do this work without the United States – probably this is not a very good statement from the point of view of a show of force against Russia. What are they thinking?”, – added the US president.
