The White House and the Pentagon are discussing scenarios for new strikes on Iran

US President Donald Trump, upon his return from China, is to make a decision on the possible resumption of military operations against Iran. The White House and the Pentagon are already discussing scenarios for new strikes if negotiations with Tehran finally reach a deadlock. This is reported by The New York Times.

In particular, the possibility of restarting Operation Epic Fury, which was previously suspended after a temporary truce between Washington and Tehran, is being considered. Among the options presented to Trump are new bombings of Iranian military and infrastructure facilities, as well as an operation involving American special forces to search for highly enriched uranium reserves at underground facilities in Isfahan.

According to the publication, several hundred special forces were deployed to the Middle East in the spring for just such a scenario.

Aboard Air Force One after departing Beijing, Trump said he had rejected a new peace proposal to Tehran. He also confirmed that he had discussed the Iranian issue with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, without disclosing details.

The Pentagon acknowledges that war with Iran has become a serious political burden for Trump, and that the main goal of stopping Iran’s nuclear program has not been achieved. The US military warns that resuming the operation could lead to significant losses and a direct clash with Iran.
