Trump and Putin had a phone conversation about a ceasefire on May 9

US President Donald Trump and Putin had a telephone conversation that lasted about an hour and a half. This was reported by Putin’s aide Fedor Ushakov, TASS reports.

According to him, Putin told Trump that Russia was ready for a truce with Ukraine on “Victory Day”, which is celebrated in Russia on May 9. The US President supported this initiative.

Speaking about the war in Ukraine, Putin said that since the beginning of 2025, Russia has allegedly transferred more than 20 thousand bodies of the dead to Ukraine, while it has received approximately 500.

The Russian dictator also congratulated US First Lady Melania Trump on her birthday and noted her contribution to the return of Ukrainian and Russian children home. In addition, the Russian president expressed support for Trump after the shooting and assassination attempt on him in Washington during a meeting of White House officials.

Putin supported Trump’s decision to extend the ceasefire in the Middle East with Iran and said that a ground operation against Tehran would be “dangerous.”

The leaders of the two countries also discussed “the prospects for projects in the economic and energy sectors.”
