Latvia has banned entry to Russian citizens who own real estate near strategic facilities
Latvia has banned the entry of Russian citizens who own real estate near strategically important objects. About this informs Latvian publication Jauns.lv.
Russians who own property near critical infrastructure have been denied entry to the country. The State Security Service of Latvia conducted a check on these persons and identified potential threats to national security. As a result, they were included in the list of persons prohibited from entering the country.
Earlier, the Parliament of Finland approved a law that prohibits citizens of third countries from acquiring real estate and land for the purpose of protecting military facilities and critical infrastructure.
In Latvia, a similar bill is currently under consideration by the parliament. It is expected that it can be adopted in the third reading even before the end of the spring session. The document provides for a ban on the purchase of real estate for citizens of Russia and Belarus, as well as companies owned by them.
The bill is aimed at preventing threats to Latvia’s national interests and possible attempts to circumvent international sanctions. At the same time, the restrictions will not apply to those who have the status of a permanent resident of the EU or a permanent residence permit in Latvia in accordance with the current immigration legislation.
