Trump has serious intentions for a peaceful settlement between Ukraine and Russia: President of Finland
The President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, after a conversation with Donald Trump, said that the intentions of the newly elected US President regarding the end of the war between Russia and Ukraine should be taken seriously. That’s what he’s about told in an interview with Bloomberg.
“It’s hard to say at this stage… But I think we in Europe and the rest of the world need to understand that Donald Trump is very serious about concluding a peace agreement as soon as possible. I said myself that there is a window of opportunity for these negotiations between the election and the inauguration. Let’s see what will happenStubb noted.
According to him, Ukraine needs the return of territories and security guarantees, and these issues can become the main issues in potential negotiations, along with membership in the EU, NATO, a just peace and reconstruction.
The attitude of Donald Trump and his team to the Ukrainian issue remains ambiguous. During the campaign, he promised to end the war without revealing what steps he would take to do so.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he is able to end the conflict in 24 hours thanks to his personal relationship with Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Vladimir Putin.
At the same time, Trump threatened to end financial support to Ukraine and “retire” from the Russian-Ukrainian war.
At a debate with Joe Biden, he called Putin’s demands for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the occupied territories and the blocking of Ukraine’s accession to NATO “unacceptable.” At the same time, Trump’s vice-presidential candidate, James D. Vance, proposed a compromise — to stop hostilities on the current front line and abandon the idea of Ukraine joining NATO.
