Trump hosts buyers of his memecoin at Mar-a-Lago club after token price drops 96%
US President Donald Trump is hosting a gathering at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, on April 25 for the winners of the second annual crypto contest related to his meme coin. This was reported by Reuters.
Participants who bought the most cryptocurrency $TRUMP were offered the opportunity to meet Trump, although the value of this token has already fallen by 96% from last year’s peak. The gala evening will take place against the backdrop of increased attention to the Trump family’s crypto projects. Democratic Party officials are calling for an investigation into these initiatives.
The event is expected to feature 297 of the largest $TRUMP token holders who have registered to participate in the competition. Trump himself has called the event the “most exclusive” cryptocurrency and business conference in the world. Another 29 top-ranking attendees will be treated to a “special VIP reception and champagne toast” with the president.
The one-day event was another example of Trump combining his presidential status with the expansion of his family’s speculative cryptocurrency projects.
While many retail buyers who bought tokens during the launch lost most of their paper profits, the Trump family and its affiliates continue to profit from the broader crypto ecosystem.
According to a Reuters investigation, the Trump family has made more than $1 billion from the sale of crypto assets. This amount includes at least $336 million related to the sale of memcoins in the first half of 2025 alone, as well as potentially billions more dollars in unrealized profits.
