Trump imposes new 10% global tariffs in response to Supreme Court ruling
US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of a 10 percent global tariff on all imports to the US, which will be in addition to the tariffs already in force. This decision was made after the The US Supreme Court declared some of the previous tariff restrictions illegal.
According to CNN, the new levy will be applied in addition to previous duties, including those imposed for national security reasons. However, as the publication specifies, the imposed duties may remain in effect for no longer than 150 days unless the US Congress decides to extend their effect.
According to the US President, all previously established restrictions will continue to operate unchanged. He also criticized the decision of the the US Supreme Court, which overturned part of his previous tariffs, calling it unfounded.
“All existing tariffs remain in full force and continue to be applied in full”, Trump stressed.
In addition, the US President announced his intention to initiate new investigations and apply alternative economic instruments, in particular the import licensing mechanism, which, according to him, is more effective than traditional tariffs. Thus, the administration is strengthening trade policy, combining existing restrictions with new measures.
