Trump instructed the special representative to end the war in Ukraine in 100 days

US President Donald Trump instructed the special representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg to end the war within 100 days. However, this goal raises considerable skepticism, informs The Wall Street Journal.

Kellogg was appointed as a special envoy as part of Trump’s initial push for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, which the president himself intends to oversee personally. However, reaching an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as Trump promised during his election campaign, is proving much more difficult.

Russia has so far shown no interest in working with Kellogg, although the Kremlin hopes that a rapprochement between Trump and Putin could improve relations between the US and Russia. Trump and Putin have not yet met in person, but have said they plan to do so in the near future.

Kellogg was appointed as the envoy because he previously co-authored a proposed peace plan criticizing the Joe Biden administration for delays in providing military aid to Ukraine. The plan also accused Washington of provoking Moscow by supporting Ukraine’s aspirations to join NATO.

This document proposes a ceasefire and peace talks based on the principle of “gingerbread and whips”. It recommended delaying Ukraine’s accession to NATO, easing sanctions against Russia in exchange for a peace agreement, and ending military aid to Ukraine if Kyiv did not agree to negotiations.
