Trump suspends trade tariffs for Mexico for a month

US President Donald Trump delayed the implementation of trade tariffs on Mexico by one month, his second retreat on tariffs in two days. About this informs BBC.

Donald Trump has announced that until April 2, Mexico will not be required to pay tariffs on goods covered by the US-Mexico-Canada Free Trade Agreement (USMCA). According to him, such a decision was made after a conversation with the President of Mexico, Claudia Scheinbaum.

Claudia Scheinbaum noted that their conversation was “wonderful and respectful” and emphasized the readiness of the two countries to cooperate in the fight against arms smuggling and stopping the flow of fentanyl from Mexico to the United States.

At the same time, Trump did not mention the possible suspension of tariffs for Canada. However, according to experts, Canada is waiting for a similar exclusion. Meanwhile, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said that starting Monday, he will introduce a 25% tariff on electricity supplied by Canada to the US states of New York, Michigan and Minnesota.

The decision to delay tariffs on Mexico was Trump’s second tariff policy review in two days. The day before, he temporarily exempted American automakers from tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, which took effect on March 4, after meeting with the heads of leading US auto companies.
