US President Donald Trump stated, which is ready to introduce a 100% tariff on imports of goods from the BRICS countries if they try to create their own currency.
“The idea that the BRICS countries are trying to move away from the dollar while we stand by and watch is over. We are going to demand from these supposedly hostile countries a commitment not to create a new BRICS currency, nor to support any other currency to replace the mighty dollars the US or they will face 100% tariffs.” – said Trump.
He also added that if the BRICS countries introduce their own currency, they will lose access to the American market and will be forced to look for new partners.
“There is no chance that BRICS will replace the US dollar in international trade or anywhere else, and any country that tries should say hello to tariffs and goodbye to America!” – emphasized the president.
We will remind that the idea of creating an international BRICS reserve currency based on a basket of national currencies was voiced by Putin in June 2022. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that this issue will be discussed at the BRICS summit in South Africa in 2023. At the same time, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of South Africa, Enoch Godongwana, noted that such an initiative was never seriously considered.
