Turkey supports return of Ukrainian territories, including Crimea: Erdogan’s adviser

Turkey supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. Ankara also supports the return of the occupied territories, including Crimea. This is stated in the statement of the chief adviser to the President of Turkey, Yalcin Topcu, quoted by “Ukrinform”.

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s advisor made the corresponding statement at a meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Nariman Jelyal.

“Turkey, which supports the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, also advocates on all platforms that the return of the occupied territories, including Crimea, is a requirement of international law.” he said.

Topcu also noted that Turkey wants the ongoing occupation and war in Ukraine, Gaza and Lebanon to end.

During his visit to Turkey, Dzhelal talked about the situation in Crimea occupied by Russia, the oppression of the Crimean Tatars and the crimes of the Russian occupiers. This is Jelyal’s first trip to Turkey after his release from Russian captivity.

At the meeting, the representatives also expressed hope that Turkey, in particular in the person of Erdogan, will contribute to the release of Crimean Tatars and other Ukrainians from Russian captivity.

Turkey’s attitude to the war

Turkey has repeatedly stated that it supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. However, Ankara did not stop economic cooperation with Russia during the war in Ukraine. Turkey has also expressed its willingness to mediate and facilitate prisoner exchanges. The Turkish authorities call on Ukraine and Russia for negotiations.
