On May 6, another exchange of prisoners took place between Ukraine and Russia, during which 205 people were returned to both sides. This is one of the largest exchanges since the beginning of full-scale war, reported Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
“Ours are free. Ours are at home. Today, Ukraine returned 205 soldiers. Young boys and adult men from almost all types and branches of the military. Defenders of Mariupol and defenders of the entire front line. They were scattered across many Russian regions, imprisoned by the prison system with the sole task of abusing and destroying humanity.”, says the message.
In the process of exchanging prisoners, the United Arab Emirates played a mediating role.
“We returned them. And I thank everyone who worked on this exchange. I thank our partners, above all the United Arab Emirates, for mediation and help. Thank you to those who care and continue to speak about Ukrainians in captivity. Every day we fight for our people. We will definitely do everything to return each and every one.”, — concluded Zelensky.
Since the start of the full-scale war, more than 4,500 people, both military and civilian, have been returned from captivity.
