Ukraine is looking for $15 billion to restore energy: Marchenko met with key partners in Washington

Minister of Finance of Ukraine Serhii Marchenko held a series of meetings on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank in Washington. He discussed with his partners the issue of urgent financial assistance for the restoration of critical infrastructure destroyed as a result of Russian aggression.

“Ukraine needs $15 billion for the quick restoration of damaged facilities, in particular energy infrastructure. 80% of the country’s thermal power plants were destroyed as a result of Russian attacks“, the message says.

Marchenko met with USAID Administrator Samantha Paver, European Economic Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni, Head of the Australian Treasury Jim Chalmers and other high-ranking officials.

The issue of using the frozen assets of the Russian Federation in the amount of more than 200 billion euros, which are kept in the accounts of EU member states, was discussed.

Ukraine calls for the creation of a reliable mechanism for using these funds to finance reconstruction and priority expenditures of the state budget.
