Ukraine is planning to change the method of separate collection of household waste
Ukraine plans to change the method of separate collection of household waste, which specifies the requirements for containers, color marking and arrangement of garbage collection sites. This is discussed in the draft order of the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development.
According to the document, certain colors are defined for different types of waste: yellow for plastic, green for glass, blue for paper, brown for bio-waste, gray or black for mixed, red for hazardous. In addition to the color, the containers must have stickers or plates with the names and symbols of the waste, and in some cases, colored painting can be replaced by clear markings.
Container areas should be arranged on a hard surface – concrete or asphalt – and provide convenient access for special equipment. Minimum distances to buildings are set: at least 20 meters from residential and public buildings, playgrounds and recreation areas, and at least 5 meters from homesteads. If it is impossible to comply with these norms, the place will be determined by a special commission of the local self-government body.
Particular attention is paid to accessibility: containers can be marked with contrasting symbols, embossed markings and duplication in Braille for the convenience of people with visual impairments. It is also planned to create mobile waste collection points — specially equipped vehicles that will collect various types of garbage in communities.
