Ukraine is preparing its own chip production in 2026

Ukraine has begun active preparations for creating its own chips. The Ministry of Digital Transformation, together with specialized associations and partners, is developing R&D projects in the field of microelectronics, reports DOU.

As Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov reported during the Brave1 event dedicated to the launch of the EU4UA Defence Tech program, the first clean room for research and development is planned to be launched in 2026.

“The location will definitely be underground and in a safe place. It will not look like a military facility: there will be no manufacturers or combat drones there. The space is intended primarily for information work, communication, and holding closed meetings and summits,” – emphasized Fedorov.

According to him, the first training programs have already been launched in partnership with the Kyiv School of Economics and the Swiss Technical University. The next steps will be the launch of a clean room and the adoption of the Chip Act, which is currently being developed and will soon be registered in parliament.

The minister added that the document will be harmonized with European legislation within the framework of European integration, and the project will be financed through the Innovation Development Fund. The probability of implementation is estimated at about 80%.
