Ukraine is ready to freeze the front line in case of obtaining security guarantees: the US ambassador to NATO
The US ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, said that Ukraine is ready to freeze hostilities with Russia on the front line, provided security guarantees are received. He reported this during the broadcast of Fox Business.
“Ukraine has proven and demonstrated that it is ready to agree to an agreement. They are ready to freeze the front line if they receive security guarantees. I think there is a basis for an agreement, and now we need to make sure that it happens,” Whitaker said.
He emphasized that the main issue remains security guarantees for Kyiv and the ability of the Ukrainian army to defend itself. In his opinion, an important condition for ensuring such guarantees is the presence of European troops on the territory of Ukraine.
The ambassador emphasized that such guarantees will pave the way for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to conclude an agreement to end the war.
“However, both parties will have to agree to the terms. And whatever this agreement is, the protection of Russian churches in Ukraine, the protection of Russian-speaking citizens, I think the basis already exists now. There was enough discussion, Matthew Whitaker summed up.
