Ukraine is working on a domestic analogue of the Patriot

The Ukrainian defense-industrial complex and the government are developing their own project of an air defense system similar to the Patriot complex. This anti-aircraft missile system is currently supplied exclusively from the United States and is the only one capable of intercepting Russian ballistic missiles, reported Herman Smetanin, Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine,

“So far, there are no analogues of the Patriot air defense missile systems on the territory of Ukraine, but our defense company has a corresponding project and we are working on it”, – explained Smetanin.

Commenting on the prospects of cooperation with other states that have the technology to create similar weapons, the minister noted that such countries exist, and Ukraine is already conducting negotiations on the possible partial localization of production.

“America has partners with whom it jointly produces these complexes. We had a number of negotiations with manufacturers of analogues, including Patriot, regarding the partial localization of the production of these systems on the territory of Ukraine. Such negotiations are ongoing, active work is underway.” – added Smetanin.

Today, Ukraine is completely dependent on supplies from the United States for air defense systems capable of shooting down ballistic missiles from Russia.
