Ukraine offered the states of Northern Europe to prepare one battalion of the Armed Forces each

Ukraine has invited Northern European countries to join a new defense project called “Northern Brigade”, which involves training and equipping each of the Northern European states with one battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. About this reported Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

This initiative was presented during the official visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Norway led by the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine for European Integration Oleksandra Balanutsa.

“The Ukrainian delegation offered Norway to join the Northern Brigade project during a meeting with the State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, Anne Marie Aanerud. Also during the Northern Defense Industry seminar, the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine called on the arms directors of Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden to bilateral of cooperation and investment in the Ukrainian defense industry”, says the message.

Oleksandra Balanutsa emphasized that participation in this project will give Northern European companies the opportunity to “demonstrate the effectiveness of their defense products in real combat conditions.” She also noted that participation in the “Northern Brigade” will strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and contribute to the further development of cooperation with the countries of Northern Europe.

During the visit, the Ukrainian delegation also held meetings with representatives of leading defense companies in the region, such as NAMMO, Fjord Defence, FLIR UAS, Kongsberg, Equipnor, Norlense and Rheinmetall, discussing opportunities for cooperation in the field of supplying military equipment and technologies.

In addition, representatives of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense appealed to their Norwegian colleagues to increase aid to Ukraine from partner countries. Issues of Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine and further support within the framework of the Nansen program were also discussed.

The proposal of the “Northern Brigade” aims to involve the countries of Northern Europe in actively supporting the defense potential of Ukraine, which is an important step in ensuring the country’s security and strengthening its position on the way to Euro-Atlantic integration.
