Ukraine received the Alkmaar anti-mine ship from the Netherlands

The Navy of Ukraine received an Alkmaar-type mine countermeasure ship from the Netherlands. The training of its crew is already underway, and another vessel of this class is expected to be handed over by the end of the year. This was reported by the Commander of the Armed Forces of the Ukrainian Navy Oleksiy Neizhpapa.

He held a meeting with the Dutch delegation led by Defense Minister Ruben Breckelmans and the Commander-in-Chief of the Dutch Armed Forces, General Onno Eichelsheim. During the negotiations, the parties discussed the security situation in the Black Sea region, the prospects for further cooperation, and the exchange of experience in conducting modern technological warfare.

Neizhpapa emphasized the importance of cooperation within the Coalition of Maritime Capabilities of Ukraine and expressed gratitude to the Netherlands for the support that strengthens the Ukrainian fleet and increases its effectiveness in countering Russia.

Alkmaar-class mine countermeasure ship (also known as the Tripartite class in international classification) is a specialized mine hunter of medium displacement (up to 660 tons at full load), which was jointly designed by the Netherlands, Belgium and France in the 1980s and 1990s. The main purpose of the vessel is the detection and disposal of sea mines. The body is made of fiberglass (polyester) to reduce the magnetic footprint, which is critical when working near mines.

We will remind you that on October 11, the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Ruben Breckelmans, announced the allocation of an aid package to Ukraine in the amount of 200 million euros. These funds will be directed to anti-drone systems.
