Ukraine will fine medical institutions for charging patients money for anesthesia

The National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSHU) is introducing fines for medical facilities that charge patients for anesthesia during operations. About this reported Nataliya Husak, head of NSZU.

“If earlier we did not apply sanctions regarding extortion of funds, including for medicines, this includes anesthesia, then at the moment every such fact that will be proven according to the complaint will be punished, in addition to recalculation and, possibly, loss of the contract, there will also be a fine of UAH 18,000 for the health care institution.” – the message says.

According to Natalia Husak, in cases where the hospital declares that anesthesia is not included in the package of services financed by the National Health Service, patients are recommended to contact the head of the medical facility directly or file a complaint with the National Health Service.

She also added that the NSHU has almost completed the procedure for renegotiating contracts with medical institutions, taking into account the new provisions on sanctions in cases of violation of contract terms.

We will remind you that from February 14, 2025, restrictions on the maximum trade margin for pharmacies began to apply – no more than 35% for over-the-counter drugs and a regressive scale for prescription drugs. At the same time, suppliers are allowed to add no more than 8% to the wholesale price, depending on the cost of the drug.
