Ukraine will not give up its territories, regardless of the outcome of the US election: Zelenskyy
In an interview with South Korean TV channel KBS, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine will not agree to any territorial concessions, regardless of the outcome of the US election or the level of further support for it.
Zelenskyy noted that regardless of who wins the US election or if US political support changes, Ukraine will not give up its territories.
‘The new president of the United States can either strengthen support for Ukraine or weaken it. Weakening support for Ukraine will give Russia the opportunity to occupy us more. Weakening support for Ukraine will not give us the opportunity to win this war. And this is true,’ Zelensky said.
If Donald Trump wins, there may be adjustments in US attitudes towards Ukraine, and Zelenskyy expressed concern about possible pressure.
‘In Trump’s case, he has declared that he is a man of action, and he just wants to end the war quickly and find some kind of model. But if Trump wants to simply force Ukraine to give up everything if he wins, and thus reach an agreement with Russia, I don’t think it’s possible today,’ Zelenskyy said.
Ukraine does not recognise the occupied territories as part of Russia, regardless of who holds the US presidency or who is in power in Russia.
‘In any case, Ukraine does not have the constitutional right to give up its legitimate state territories, and therefore, legally, it is simply impossible, no matter what Putin comes up with,’ Zelenskyy said.
Regarding the situation with the Ukrainian military in the Kursk region, Zelenskyy explained that Ukraine has created a buffer zone, which Russia tried to use against us.
Ukraine has no intention of seizing Russian territories or living there:
‘We are interested in returning our territories. And if, at the end of the war, with diplomatic steps or with today’s tactical military steps on the battlefield, this operation has an influential effect, we will use it,’ Zelensky added.
