Ukrainian government launches project to support women in areas where they are underrepresented
The Cabinet of Ministers approved an experimental project aimed at vocational training of women for employment in areas where they have traditionally been underrepresented. About this reported government representative Taras Melnychuk. The procedure for the implementation of the experimental project was approved and the list of professions that open up new opportunities for women in non-typical industries was determined.
The list of such professions includes:
- machine operator of woodworking machines of a wide profile;
- forklift, tram, trolleybus driver;
- electric gas boiler;
- electrician for repair and maintenance of electrical equipment;
- master of diagnostics and tuning of electronic equipment of cars;
- excavator, crane and metallurgical crane operator;
- installer of building insulation systems;
- operator of remotely controlled devices and boiler rooms, etc.
The need for retraining of the female population arose due to a shortage of personnel, which prompts employers to offer women new opportunities for employment in previously atypical industries for them.
During the panel discussion “Feminization and the present: trends, challenges and the role of women in the reconstruction of Ukraine”, the project coordinator of the Ukrainian Women’s Fund, Milena Horyachkovska, emphasized that women are increasingly beginning to work in fields that have long been considered purely male. Removing these stereotypical barriers helps to even out disparities in the labor market, which is particularly important for sectors that may be threatened by a shortage of skilled professionals.
